MAX14544, MAX14545 Bidirectional current-limit switches integrate a 28V MOSFET to protect host device against faulty chargers

Bidirectional overcurrent protectors withstand up to 28V.

The MAX14544/MAX14545 protect their dual-purpose ports that are used for both charging the host device and powering plug-in accessories.

SUNNYVALE, CA—April 22, 2010—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX14544/MAX14545, bidirectional overcurrent protectors that integrate a 28V MOSFET to prevent damage to the host device from faulty overload and/or output-overvoltage conditions. This integration, combined with the high-voltage tolerance at the outputs when the switch is off, makes these parts ideal for protecting ports that provide power to external accessories. Targeted applications include cell phones, MIDs (mobile Internet devices), e-readers, and other portable applications with plug-in accessories.

The MAX14544/MAX14545's forward-current limit is selectable from two factory-preset thresholds of 200mA and 400mA, while the reverse-current limit is set to 150mA. Packaged in a lead-free, 2mm x 2mm, 8-pin TDFN, these devices are fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.10 (1000-up, FOB USA).
